14. Optimize One Image for SEO in SquareSpace
The 15-Minute (Private) Practice
One simple step each week to help grow your private practice — in 15 minutes or less.
Welcome to this week’s edition of The 15-Minute Practice — a short, powerful tip to help you grow your private practice with clarity, one simple step at a time.
Your 15-Minute Action This Week
Choose one image on your website and optimize it with a clear filename and alt text.
What You'll Get
In 15 minutes, you’ll help search engines (and accessibility tools) better understand your content—giving your site a small SEO boost that adds up over time.
1. Pick one page on your site with an image—this could be a blog post or a service page. In SquareSpace, edit the page with the image, and edit the image block.
2. Rename the "Alternate Filename" box to something descriptive, like “anxiety-therapy-portland”.
3. Add or update the image’s alt text so it clearly describes the photo and naturally includes a relevant keyword (e.g., “woman talking to therapist about anxiety”).
Bonus: Compress the image using a tool like TinyPNG to help your site load faster.
This Step's Purpose
Image optimization helps your site in two ways: it improves accessibility for users relying on screen readers, and it gives search engines helpful context about your content. Both are good for SEO—and for your clients.
